It is possible to join the union once you have employment in the field with a company that has a collective bargaining agreement with IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees). This is a trade association the represents employees in the audio/video area and offers audio and visual certificates at a number of levels.

 

It is reported that audio and video equipment techs can make upwards of 45K a year. Some make considerably more while others make less.
