Ignite honors NASA Space Shuttle manager

The board of directors of Ignite, Inc., the nonprofit organization that developed the SystemsGo Aeroscience program for high school science students, recently honored Wayne Hale, manager of the Space Shuttle Program for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, for his support of the innovative project-based curriculum.

Brett Williams, founder of SystemsGo, presented Hale with a plaque at the dinner held in conjunction with Rockets ’09. The plaque reads, “To Wayne Hale for his support of SystemsGo Aeroscience and innovative education for the youth of America.”

“Wayne Hale is a visionary who realizes that the successes of tomorrow can be strongly determined by the state of today’s public education,” Williams said. “Through his support, and NASA’s, the SystemsGo program is prepared to help public education support workforce development in the new millennium.”

Hale has worked at NASA since 1978, serving in the space shuttle program since 2003.

“This is one of the highlights of my career at NASA,” Hale said. “To be involved with such brilliant educators that have inspired these young people to study so hard and build great careers for themselves. What Brett has done is just fantastic. This is a great program.”

Ignite is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed to help spread the program to other high schools in Texas. Anyone wanting to start a program, to provide support, or to learn more about Ignite can visit www.igniteeducation.org or call 830-997-3567.
